LOG JAM from Q-BITS


When you pull out a 100 or so scraps from the bins to make a quilt, and your cutting table looks like a cyclone hit it; it made sense to me to make a different design from those same fabrics.  With a couple of leftover blocks from 'Triple Joy' and my mess of scraps, that is how this two-block quilt evolved.

It's an easy way to work when you randomly choose fabric pattern/colors by only sorting into lights and darks.  With half-inch logs, it all seems to blend and/or accent when needed.

Log Jam 101, 102, 103, 104, 105 from Virtual Quilter

Middle of another week already!

Every week I show some Log Cabin designs, and pretty much every week I think of something different I should try. This week I am thinking that I really should start a new file with just the basic Log Cabin blocks but with the dark fabrics on the opposite side of the block.

So you can guess what I will be doing during at least on coffee break today.

But first, I have to concentrate on today’s post for you to enjoy during your coffee break.

Log Jam 96, 97, 98, 99, 100 from Virtual Quilter

Mid week again already, so time to share some Log Cabin designs.

I like the on point square in the centre of the first design for this week.

The second one has an interesting centre, but I don’t like it a lot.

The design above looks like couple of Band-Aids covering a wound … or is it just that I need another coffee?

Not too sure what the one above now looks like. I do know that it is probably one of the few that I would not encourage anybody to make.

Log Jam 91, 92, 93, 94, 95 from Virtual Quilter

This project file has lots of designs using one block in three colour variations … two of them in the first design.

Even with the exact block variations in each design there are many possible variations in the way they are laid out in the quilt top. Both of the designs above use exactly the same block colourings.

The one above has quite a wide variety of block contrasts by comparison, as all three of the contrast combinations are used.

I wonder how many possibilities there are?

To make any symmetrical design you need multiples of four of each of the ...
